Systems Analysis and Design

The book does a series of case studies that I want you to work on - primarily the New Century Health Clinic. I would like you to follow through that case study on your own and do the assignments at the back of each chapter. If you have questions let me know. This is for practice. I will have you actually work on some other situations with analysis and design.

I want you to then think about the concepts being studied in relation to a business you are familiar with - the banking industry.

Assignment:

Prepare an organization chart for your branch. Check page 39 in the text for information about using the Organization Chart feature in Microsoft. I would also like you to prepare an organization chart for the MIS Department at your bank if that is possible.

Think of the tasks performed by the people at your branch - especially the ones related to providing data and explain what they are and what job accomplishes them.

Explain the computerized systems that are operating at your bank - the ones that you are involved with.

Explain the procedures involved in one of the things you do - for example transferring money from a savings account to a checking account. Deal with both the manual procedures and the computerized procedures.

Is there any area that you think could be handled more efficiently? Explain.

It would be great if you could set up an interview to learn more about one of the procedures done by the bank that you do not understand completely or one that you think could be improved. Even if you cannot arrange that, you can still prepare for it, so… Prepare a list of objectives for the interview, prepare the questions to ask to draw that information out of the interview and write up a report on the interview (if you are able to schedule it).
