Information Systems Seminar (CIS263/79)

Weekly Schedule

The catalog says the last day to withdraw from classes is April 9th. If you want to evaluate your status you can contact me. We can also talk about extensions.

Activities to accomplish during the semester This course will focus on developing a capstone project and a portfolio.
Capstone project: The project should be something you can use as an example of your programming and database ability. I strongly suggest one project that has a program that manipulates a database, maintains information, interacts with the user, does significant processing etc. You should start to think about what you want to do and send me a proposal.
I suggest that you develop the proposal for the semester long project and meet with me or submit it. The sooner the better! As you work on the capstone project, I want a report on your status each week. By the end of April, the capstone project should be completed and you should setup a meeting where you can demo the results.
Portfolio: Develop an online portfolio of your work and experience that can be used effectively in your job search. Upload it to the web. You should also develop an effective site using Linkedin.
Career paper: Research three possible careers in IT that you are considering and write about the requirements for the job, the functions of the job and your interest in the job. Extra credit if you interview an IT professionals who is doing a job similar to the ones you want and include that in your paper.
You must report back to me once a week as to what you have accomplished and where you stand.
