Week #4
Week of September 28th
This week, I would like you to do some research on XHTML and CSS (cascading style sheets). You can find information on this on line and you can also find information at my CIS44 site.
When you write the XHTML, you should take the top four lines in the source from this page and use it as the first four lines in your XHTML. Notice that the HTML tag is included in the first four lines so you simply start with the head tag.
Code with first 4 lines of XHTML
View the source and use the first four lines at the top of your XHTML for good validation. Remember, the fourth line includes html.
Assignments:
Write a couple of pages using XHTML and CSS (they can be related to your project or just practice pages). The pages should link together.
Week #3
Week of September 21st
This week I would like you to do some research on packages that can be used to develop a portfolio and some research on what should go into a portfolio. I would like you to see if you can find some pages to test. I would also like you to review your HTML and make sure that you are comfortable making a basic web page. That is another way you can do a portfolio.
This course has room for you to pick some things you find interesting to work on, let me know if you have any ideas.
Assignments:
Please report back to me on your research and also write an HTML page that could be the introductory page for a fairly professional portfolio and send it to me.
Week #2
Week of September 14th
Your main project for this course is to develop a capstone project that deals with the effective use of computers in a career area that you are involved in or considering.
Do some research and find out how computers are being used in your field of choice. You can decide on the scope for your proposal.
Your final project should include a portfolio, a presentation and a web site devoted to the topic. The portfolio should be done on line.
Working toward this objective, I would like you to continue playing with the graphics package or a graphics package and I would like you to work with a presentation package. You can use PowerPoint or an open source package. I have worked with OpenOffice Impress.
Assignments:
Prepare a presentation on some topic, the goal is not the topic, the goal is to try multiple features. Please send me the presentation and an explanation of what you tried. (due in 2 weeks)
Keep working with the graphics package to try to get more comfortable or go back to one you are comfortable with and continue experimenting with graphic mainipulation.
Week #1

I want you to pick an application package that can be used to create graphics/images that you do not know and learn how to use it effectively. You can pick a package in our lab, a package that allows for a free trial download, or freeware/shareware. Note these are references I have been given, not that I have tried!
Note also that this software might be helpful when you do your project!
Possible places to look include:
SourceForge software
Adobe tryouts
About article on Free Graphics Software
Assignments:
I want you to report back to me what package you used, the process you went through to learn the package, the problems you encountered and the steps you took to overcome them. Show me a product!
