| Week #15 Week of May 6th |
This is the last week we will meet in the classroom. On the 13th of May we will have it a hybrid day when you can work on getting anything missing into me. Monday, May 6th we will look at JQuery Mobile for a few minutes, look at the site of anyone willing to share their site with the class and the rest of the time can be spent working on finishing up the course. The final exam is due on Monday, May 20th by 11:15. You must pass in both the final and the required status sheet by the start of the final. Note that the status sheet is required and I do not correct the final until I get the status sheet - it is your insurance and mine. I will be available all day Tuesday, May 6th from 9:30 until 3 in K101 for help, so if you have anything you need to go over, please come. Also note that the guest speaker in K101 at 11 on Thursday will talk mainly about Web Development so it would be a great event to attend. | Week #14 Week of April 29th |
I will be around Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and Monday at 10 and probably 3. I have a meeting at 4. Friday there is a help/catchup lab. Some websites to look at about marketing your website: From webmarketingtoday From Forbes From SBA Some of these articles will help you prepare for the final. There will probably be a question about placement, about searching, about attracting people to your site about evaluating a site etc. Some research now will help when you attack the final next week. Let me know if you find some dead links. One of the topics to consider is getting good placement of your page. | Week #13 Week of April 22nd |
This week I will be available for help in an all day help session on Tuesday (9:30 until 3) in K101. Speech announcement: Please join the Computer Information Systems (CIS) department on Wednesday, April 24 from 2-3PM in H129 to welcome NAO, the humanoid robot, designed by Aldebaran Robotics. NAO has appeared on the Today show, "The Doctors", as well as made other televised appearances. NAO can be programmed using a variety of coding languages in a variety of ways. I will be around Tues and Thurs afternoon from 2 to 4 and Max is willing to do a help session on Friday, but please email either of us and let us know if you want to attend. We will plan on Friday. I am available Monday at 10 and Tuesday and Thursday at 1:45. I will be around Thursday until around 4:30 and Tuesday until around 4ish. This week we will continue to look at JavaScript. There are a few more things to look at, but the main focus is going to be on you writing some JavaScript. Assignments to turn in: Calculate Total We will send quite a while on this in class. I want to go over this in class next Monday, so it has to be passed in before the start of class. If you have problems with it, send me your best attempt! Check back! |
| Week #9 Week of March 25th |
I am available for help on Monday at 10 and Tuesday at 1:45 for at least an hour and Friday for a catch up time most of the day. We will continue with JavaScript and look at functions to start. We looked at the function examples under both HTML5 and XHTML. We also looked at the mathfacts problems and the other things under HTML5 under the functions in Loops etc. Assignments to turn in: Sp2011classexercise.zip Extra credit if you fix the mathfacts program we went over in class and change it so that you have three chances to get the right answer to a problem. In class, we worked on modifying the program so that if the answer was wrong, it stayed in a loop until the correct answer was entered. Now I want it to stay in the loop until either the answer is correct or the user had used the 3 chances. To get the extra credit, it must be passed in before class next Monday. |

I am available for help on Monday at 10 and at 1:45, and then Tuesday at 1:45 for about an hour. Thursday at 11, Greg Clarkin and Terry Ott from Meditech along with Pat Condon from student services will be in to talk, I suggest you attend and listen to their information. We will continue working with JavaScript this week. Remember that w3schools is also an excellent reference for JavaScript. We looked at the examples through events under HTML5/Javascript samples. I have gotten questions about rounding in JavaScript. The following code would round a field called ans to two decimal places: ansrounded = Math.round(ans*100)/100; There were also questions about converting upper and lower case. | Week #5 Week of February 18th |
This week I am available Tuesday afternoon and Thursday at 10. We will finish the topics under HTML5 and we will start looking at CSS which is under XHTML so this means a review of XHTML. CSS Validator Check back! Assignments to turn in: Frame assignment: 1) Develop a frame page that has one row across the whole page and beneath it a row that is broken up into three columns. I do not care what pages you show in those frames. 2) Demonstrate top, blank, self and named targets. Syllabus Assignment All style should be done with CSS. Validate your work. There was an address problem with my Smartboard links that has been fixed. Do let me know if you find a link problem! This week I will be available Mon at 10 in K112 and Tues and Thurs at 1:45 in K101 or K112. Both Tuesday and Thursday I can stay quite a while if you tell me that you would like to meet. This week I want to look at images, go back and look at some XHTML and talk about validation. We may get to mapping. I also want to look at embedded lists a little more. can go to the lab to work on things. I was away this weekend and unfortunately my laptop decided to quit so I did not have access to a lot of things and therefore I am behind. Hopefully I will get caught up in the next few days! Sorry! We will continue on looking at HTML5 and XHTML. I plan to go through an introduction to CSS, links and tables (we will see if we make it to tables). from 1:45 until 2:45 in K101 or my office (K112) - if we need a lab we can go across the hall to the main lab. This semester we will cover HTML, CSS and Javascript/JavaScript. In looking at HTML, we will focus on HTML5 but spend time on XHTML as well. We will start to add CSS3 features to our CSS and then we will look at adding the power of JavaScript to our web pages. Just to be sure you are comfortable with the various ways of searching the web, I would like you to look at the information at this site. Searching effectively Google Guide Please browse my website and become familiar with what is there. Since we will be looking at both HTML5 and XHTML, I am giving you a basic example of of both styles: Code for a basic example of HTML5 Code for a basic example of XHTML I want you to look at HTML5 sample code and then HTML5 - intro and XHTML sample code and then XHTML - intro. You can also look at getting started under XHTML. There are presentations to accompany XHTML. Because I do the Smartboard, I have stopped doing the presentations and focused on the Smartboard explanations. We will also look at validation in both HTML5 and XHTML. The validator is located at W3. If you validate by File Upload and browse to find your file and then click on check, the validator will give you feedback. | Week #1 Week of January 21st | Because classes start on Wednesday, January 23rd, your first class will be on Monday, January 28th. There is no required book for this course, but you might find it helpful to look up some resources and tutorials on HTML, XHTML and HTML5 because we will start to look at using HTML in its various versions when we start the course. |
